Dolls

Blythe


Blythe is a fashion doll with an oversized head and large eyes. It was created in 1972 by Kenner.

It has 4 eye changes (Left, right and 2 front), 3 face types (Fairest, Radiance Plus and Radiance Renew) and 6 face colors (Snow, cream, fair, regular, latte and mocha).

Characteristics:
- Height: 28.5 cm (11 inches).
- Head circunference: 25.5 cm.
- Bust: 10.5 cm.
- Waist: 7.5 cm.
- Hip: 10 cm.
- Eye change by pulling a string.

Middie Blythe


Middie Blythes is like Blythe's 'middle' sister. They have only been by produced by Takara since 2010.

Unlike Blythe dolls, Middie has only one set of eyes that moves side-to-side and his head also moves around to create adorable and cute looks.

Characteristics:
- Height: 20.3 cm (8 inches).
- Head circunference: 19.5 cm.
- Bust: 8.5 cm.
- Waist: 6.5 cm.
- Eye movement side to side.

Petite Blythe


Petite-sized Blythes have been produced by Hasbro and Takara. Takara has been making Petites since 2002. Hasbro has made a facsimile of the Takara Petite since 2010.

The Takara-made petites have 'sleep eyes' in the traditional sense (lay the doll down, eyes close; sit/stand the doll up, eyes open). Hasbro's petites have static eyes, but later they changed the look of their Petite to better match the appearance of Blythe Baxter, the human character from the tv show, Littlest Pet Shop.

Characteristics:
- Height: 12 cm (4.5 inches).
- Head circunference: 11 cm.
- Sleepy eyes (Takara) / Static eyes (Hasbro).

Pullip


Pullip is a collectible fashion doll created by the Cheonsang Cheonha of Korea and was marketed by JUN planning of Japan since 2003. Since early 2009, it has been marketed by Groove of Korea

The Pullip has a unique eye mechanism that allows the eyes to move back and forth and wink, using levers on the back of the head. The articulated body has nearly the size of a Barbie body and has gone through several changes. Early dolls had Marmit-type bodies with visible screws. Starting in 2004, Pullip had a new body (Type 2) which had no visible screws, a soft torso and joints that could be pulled apart. In 2005, a newer body was created with less articulation (Type 3), a smaller more child-like body, and hinged wrists/ankles. Finally, in 2009 the last body was created. The type 4 body is similar to the type 3 but is more poseable and currently not prone to wrist crack.

Characteristics:
- Height: 31 cm (12 inches).
- Head circunference: 24 cm.
- Bust: From 9.6 cm (Type 4 body) to 11.5 cm (Type 2 body).
- Waist: From 6.4 cm (Type 3 body) to 10.6 cm (Type 4 body).
- Hip: 11 cm.

Taeyang


Taeyang was introduced in 2006 as the second male counterpart of the Pullip by Jun Planning, replacing prior Namu doll.

Taeyang body is articulated and 34 cm tall. His eyes moves from side to side, and eyelids that can blink and close via levers on the back of his head. Starting in 2007, Taeyang's eyelids could remain closed.

- Bust: 13.3 cm.
- Waist: 9.2 cm.
- Hip: 12.2 cm.

BJD


A ball-jointed doll is any doll that is articulated with ball and socket joints.

These are cast in polyurethane synthetic resin, a hard, dense plastic, and the parts strung together with a thick elastic. They are predominantly produced in Japan, South Korea and China. The modern BJD market bagan with the Volks line of Super Dollfie in 1999.

The BJD style has been described as both realistic and influenced by anime. They commonly range in size from about 60 cm for the larger dolls, 40 cm for the mini dolls, and down to 10 cm for the very smallest BJDs.

How does the eye changing work


First, using the string to the left of the head (the red string in the picture) at a 90º angle to the head, pull backwards as shown in the picture and try to do it as close to the head as possible. You will hear a click and the eyes will be closed.

To raise the eyelids again, just pull the other string (the blue string in the picture) and the eye colour and gaze will change.

Every time you change the eyes, the direction she looks at also changes. The eye chips are fixed at a certain direction, it is not possible to mix and match directions and colours, except the front gaze which has 2 pairs of eye chips to choose from.
